Join us on a One Day Map and Compass Navigation Courses, in North Yorkshire – North York Moors and Yorkshire Dales, where you will learn how navigate using a map and compass, with easily remembered techniques, repeated so you understand and remember.
The course is both, fun and practical. The locations are chosen to enable you to learn and practice new skills in land navigation. The days will last about 6 to 8 hours. The courses are available all week, however, 48 hours notice is required prior to the course to allow for printing, route selection etc.
There are no set dates for when courses are held, just fill in the Contact Form, send an email or telephone me, to arrange a course.
These Compass and Map Reading Courses are just the start of your navigation journey, they are the foundation, upon which you can build your knowledge and experience..

Basic Navigation Course

Understanding map scale : 1:25,000 / 1:50,000 / 1:40,000
Map legend/symbols, what they mean.
Obtaining a grid reference. Grid lines.
Contours, how to interpret:- features & steepness
Using a compass, the various parts.
The difference between:- True North, Grid North & Magnetic North.
Setting the map with & without using a compass
Taking a bearing / back bearing.
Magnetic variation.
Timing, pacing & Naismith’s rule

Pricing and group discounts

The one-day courses, both Basic and Advanced, are about 7 to 8 hours in duration.
1 to 1 training = £89 for the day.
A group booking of 2 persons = £132 (20% discount or £66.00 per person).
A group booking of 3 persons = £186 (30% discount or £62.00 per person).
A group booking of 4 persons = £212 (40% discount or £53.00 per person).

The course may not be suitable for children under 12 years of age. Don’t hesitate to get in touch with us.
Children aged 12 to 17 years, accompanied by an adult, receive 50% off.
Young adults aged 18 to 24 years – the ages, statistically most likely to call Mountain Rescue, 25% off.]
A maximum of 4 persons to ensure safety, and each person receives the correct level of training! This also stops too much disturbance to wildlife. You can hear large groups coming from a long distance away. On the course, you are supplied with a map & compass for use during the day.
You will be sent a payment link to make a 25% deposit to secure the date, via Sumup/Square/PayPal
The remaining 75% is required to be paid 7 days before the course date.
Travel, accommodation and food are NOT included in the price.
